Kenwood Home Theater
Although Kenwood has gotten out of the home theater market, you can still find some used systems on the internet and through private sale.
An example of a Kenwood Home Theater system is the Kenwood HTB-707DV Theater System, released in May, 2004.
The system is a “home theater in a box” and comes with a receiver, DVD player, radio tuner, six speakers, and a subwoofer. It has a total output of 120 Watts.
The system’s DVD player plays all common types of DVD’s and CD’s, including those you can write on your home computer. (Video DVD, VCD, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, Audio CD, CD-R, CD-RW, Picture CD)
Playable file formats are MP3, WMA, and JPEG (pictures). It is not a multiple-disc CD or DVD changer. The radio tuner comes with forty preset slots. The subwoofer itself has an output of 100 Watts.
This system is easy to set up right out of the box. A detailed setup manual is included, complete with suggested speaker placement.
The sixth speaker (systems more commonly come with only five) helps create an even more realistic sound immersion environment with this Kenwood home theater system. The receiver features Dolby Digital EX and DTS-ES.
Another system from Kenwood is the HTB-805DV Theater System. It includes a receiver, DVD player, Radio Tuner, five 2-way speakers and an 8” subwoofer. Its output is 100 Watts.
It plays only DVD’s and Audio CD’s, but it will play MP3’s on audio CD’s. The five-disc DVD changer features Progressive Scan, which gives twice the image quality of a regular television when you have a compatible monitor.
The Kenwood HTB-505 Theater System was a popular system with a receiver, a radio tuner, 5 speakers and a subwoofer.
Like the 805DV, it has a 100-Watt output. The main difference is that it does not include a DVD player. The receiver has S-video inputs and outputs, and the universal remote includes a joystick control.
With a little searching on the secondhand market, getting a Kenwood home theater system may be a good way to break into the home theater trend. You can probably get a decent system for a very reasonable price.
